Industrial applications: Atmospheric-pressure plasma for pretreatment in the production of household equipment

Reliable adhesion and bonding

Daily, large volumes of what are known as “white goods” are produced by leading manufacturers such as Electrolux, Whirlpool and BSH. In the production of household appliances a recurring problem is to do with the reliable adhesion and bonding of different materials. Even printing on products and anticorrosion treatment are major topics in the white goods industry. The use of Openair® plasma systems ensures reliable and cost-effective processes in the surface treatment of these products.

Low-cost and environmentally friendly processes

Pretreatment with atmospheric-pressure plasma ensures not only secure adhesion, it also affords the possibility of using alternative low-cost materials instead of the traditional ones. The reason is obvious: when Openair® plasma is used specific surface properties adapted to the nature of the new material can be developed. In addition, by using this technology solvents are rendered unnecessary in numerous processes and drying times are shortened.

Selective and mild surface pretreatment

Composite materials made from plastic, metal, glass and even ceramics are frequently used in domestic appliances. In the pretreatment of surfaces the plasma beam of an Openair® system makes no distinction between materials. This is an outstanding advantage of the zero-potential plasma jet technology.
Even in high-end printing Plasmatreat with its innovative method of surface treatment meets the needs of the industry. Here high-gloss surfaces are efficiently pretreated with Openair® plasma without the slightest mechanical damage to the surface to be imprinted.
