FAKUMA 2006 - System Partners Make Successful Exhibition Appearance
Friedrichshafen: Over 1,400 exhibitors presented their wide-ranging products and services at the 18th International Trade Fair for Plastics Processing - FAKUMA 2006 - which ran from 17-21 October.

Under the banner "We treat surfaces" Plasmatreat presented an example of the in-line application of Openair® Plasma in the form of the pretreatment of plastic components prior to the application of expanded foam seals from its system partner Ceracon, Europe's leading manufacturer of one-component foam moulding plants.
Joachim Schüßler, Head of Branch Office Plasmatreat South, and Andreas Kreissl, Managing Director of Ceracon GmbH, together with their teams demonstrated all-round technical competence. Ceracon foam seal technology is generally used for sealing door locks and door lock modules, headlights and connector housings right through to amplifier housings for stand-alone base stations. This requires a reliable and stable pretreatment process for the components prior to the application of the foam seal. At the same time the process must ensure secure adhesion of the one-component PU foam on nonpolar plastics in fully automatic plants having very short cycle times.
The long-standing collaboration of the Ceracon and Plasmatreat companies is based on the fact that Openair® Plasma technology is the only process able to fulfil all of the above requirements. Furthermore, the high intensity of pretreatment provided by Openair® Plasma allows very short component handling times which makes the entire process distinctly more efficient.
It
was impossible to miss the system partners' joint stand at the
exhibition: it was surrounded by crowds of visitors every day. This was
due to a very effective publicity gimmick. A robot-controlled unit was
engaged in "manufacturing" - not headlights or connector housings this
time, but instead water-tight picture frames in which the groove was
pretreated with plasma and then filled out to exactly the right level
with foam. Every visitor was given a sample.
