Plasmatreat successful at the MD&M Exhibition in California

From February 13 – 15, 2007, Plasmatreat presented itself to the American market at the largest exhibition in the world for the medical industry – MD&M West (Medical Design & Manufacturing) in Anaheim, California.

The team from Plasmatreat North America under the leadership of Dr. Daniel Kaute showed the crowds of visitors the latest applications and developments of OpenairĀ® Plasma technology in the field of medical technology.

Apart from the presentation of the tried and tested FG 3001 triaxial robot unit with rotating plasma jet for pretreating three-dimensional components, the attention of the expert public was very much focused on the new Plasmatreater AS400. The test installation recently honored in Germany with the international industrial design prize, the “iF award 2007”, is used for computer-controlled process evaluation in the laboratory for determining the optimum treatment parameters to be employed in a later volume production installation.

As a unique feature anywhere in the world the “Plasmatreater AS400” affords the possibility of plasma polymerization using OpenairĀ® Plasma. This plasma coating allows, inter alia, the selective corrosion protection of metals, reduces diffusion through plastics and produces functional, hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces. Plasmatreat has succeeded in running this process, which is otherwise only possible in low-pressure chambers, at atmospheric pressure.

The new patent application relating to the use of OpenairĀ® Plasma for sterilizing surfaces aroused particular interest. According to Managing Director Christian Buske, who also visited the exhibition, this is the result of a successful joint project with the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Technology and Packaging (IVV) in Freising, Germany.

The plan for expansion into the American medical devices market will be pursued with renewed vigor when in June 2007 Plasmatreat North America presents its innovative technology once again on a big stage, this time at the MD&M East in New York City.
