Plast Eurasia 2014 – Plasmatreat presents the ‘Next Generation’

International trade fair for the plastics industry Plast Eurasia 2014 opened its doors to over 25,000 visitors in Istanbul from 4 to 7 December. 1154 exhibitors from 41 countries presented their latest trends, products and developments. It was Plasmatreat's sixth attendance in succession at this show, which is regarded as the most important event for the plastics processing industry in the Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa and the Balkans.

Hakan Sağkal, Nilgun Alioğlu and Metin Aktuğ (from left) represented Plasmatreat at PLAST EURASIA in Istanbul in December.

Under the slogan 'Next Generation' Hakan Sağkal (President of Plasmatreat Turkey and the MEA Region), together with his colleagues Nilgun Alioğlu and Metin Aktuğ, presented the very latest application and product developments for OPENAIR® plasma technology and PlasmaPlus® atmospheric plasma coating to the visitors.

The live demonstration, which this year focused on the use of atmospheric pressure plasma in digital printing, attracted a great deal of interest. System partner PIMMS, sole supplier of Mimaki printers in Turkey, supported the tradeshow campaign by providing a UJF-3042 UV Led Flatbed Mimaki UV Printer. The plasma treatment was applied to unprinted polypropylene and ABS credit cards with the aid of a Janome 3-axis desktop robot which controlled an RD2004 rotary nozzle. The aim of the treatment was to achieve a surface tension of 48mN/m on the nonpolar plastics, which is essential for the long-time stable adhesion of UV printer inks. The samples were digitally printed immediately after plasma treatment so that visitors could test for themselves the adhesion of the inks.

"We enjoyed another successful trade fair again this year", reports Sağkal. "We received a lot of interest from new prospective purchasers not only in Turkey but also from neighboring countries such as Iran and Bulgaria. I was particularly pleased to see a large number of specialist visitors from different sectors of the print industry and delighted that we were able to make strategic contact with leading companies in our target industries; automotive, household appliances/white goods and packaging."
