Plasmatreat at BOBST’s “PERSPECTIVES 07 Open House”

Bobst folding box gluing machines have set a new standard for the
industry. The high quality of glued joints in their packaging materials
is further decisively optimised here by the in-line use of the plasma
installation developed by Plasmatreat.
From 5 to 8 June at the Bobst Group’s in-house exhibition “PERSPECTIVES 07 Open House” in Mex (Lausanne/Switzerland) Plasmatreat presented its complete range of services for the folding box industry.
The Bobst Group is a leading supplier of equipment and services in the field of the folding box and corrugated board industry and in the processing of flexible materials.

In February earlier this year the joint exhibition appearance of Plasmatreat and BOBST at the Spanish trade fair for the graphics industry, “graphispag 2007”, in Barcelona had aroused great interest. The subject for Plasmatreat at both events was the optimisation of glued joints in packaging materials by the in-line use of an Openair® plasma installation.
The secure adhesive bonding of longitudinal seams in high-quality folding boxes is made possible by pretreatment of the bonding surfaces with Openair® plasma.

The secure bonding of longitudinal seams in high-grade folding boxes is
made possible by pretreatment of the bonding surfaces with Openair®
plasma.
The pretreatment process leaves behind no visible traces whatsoever on the surface. In the case of film-laminated and varnished blanks an intimate and durable joint is achieved even when standard adhesives are used. Fast linear speeds and high cycle rates in the set-up machine even with these adhesives are mastered without difficulty by the plasma system.
Plasmatreat was able to show that even at transport speeds of well over 400 m/min gluing with dispersion adhesives after Openair® plasma treatment had been carried out is absolutely reliable even when the most demanding surfaces are involved.
