On the African continent this country occupies a leading position in the field of research and development and its economy registers steady growth rates. All well-known automobile manufacturers are represented in South Africa, as are many of the world’s largest suppliers to the automotive industry. Apart from this important industrial sector other spheres of industrial activity of particular interest to Plasmatreat in South Africa are packaging, household appliances and medicine.
In the industrial trading company RPS, based on the Cape and representing leading companies in the field of adhesives technology (including the Swiss company Robatech AG), Plasmatreat has found an experienced and accomplished business associate.
The Managing Director of RPS, André Schlenk, is a specialist in the fields of adhesive systems and surface technology. For the launch of their activities in the German Openair® plasma technology he together with his team invited customers and media representatives to a one-day seminar at their headquarters in the hills of Hout Bay, a picturesque fishing village about 20 minutes away from Cape Town.

The seminar led by Plasmatreat Managing Director Christian Buske dealt with the broad range of Openair plasma technology and its applications all round the world in the past 10 years in almost all sectors of industry. Key points of interest in the discussions were the latest breakthroughs in the field of multicomponent plastic adhesive joints, the pre-treatment of plastics before applying print to them and the new technology of atmospheric-pressure plasma polymerisation, PlasmaPlus®, developed by Plasmatreat in collaboration with Fraunhofer IFAM. The polymerisation process is regarded as a global first: the process which otherwise proceeds only in a low-pressure chamber can now for the first time take place at atmospheric pressure. For the user this results in significant economic efficiency.
