Pretreatment: Efficient surface cleaning of plastic, metal (e.g. aluminium) and glass

Pretreatment and cleaning with Openair® plasma produces the ideal conditions for the subsequent coating of plastic, metal (e.g. aluminium) or glass.

Due to the fact that cleaning with plasma is a dry process immediate further processing of the materials is possible. The use of plasma ensures a smooth and efficient overall process. Due to the high energy level of the plasma, chemical or organic substances on the surface of the material can have their structure selectively broken up. This process results in new reaction products. The surface is completely freed of the unwanted initial substances. This produces the ideal conditions for subsequent coating.

Surface cleaning of materials to the depth of its pores by means of Openair® plasma.

No mechanical damage to the surface, no wet chemicals and it is an environmentally friendly process.

Mould release agents, additives, plasticisers and hydrocarbons are removed from the surfaces.

Ultrafine cleaning with plasma removes from plastics even the finest particles of dust initially adhering tightly to the surface on account of the additives. The plasma consumes the particles by reaction and removes them completely from the substratum. The wastage rate of high-quality paint jobs, in the automotive industry for example, is sharply reduced. Due to the physicochemical reaction in the nanometre range high-grade, precisely defined surfaces are obtained.

Advantages of cleaning with plasma
  • 100 % cleaning effect
  • No dilution effect (unlike water-based cleaning)
  • No need for other consumables (compared with cleaning by CO2 jets)
  • Surface cleaning of the complete structure of the material instead of just superficial peaks (in comparison with cleaning by sandblasting)
  • No additional investment in space due to in-line integration in the production line
  • Economically and ecologically efficient pretreatment
