Openair® plasma system components: Plasma jets and generators as principal components

Generation and propagation of the plasma

The plasma jets directed at the material serve to generate and propagate the plasma. The plasma is generated inside the jet by a high voltage between a stator and a rotor and is blown out through the head of the jet by means of the operating gas. The generators employed in Openair® plasma technology generate high pulse voltages of short duration and of positive or negative polarity. This makes them ideally suitable for controlling atmospheric-pressure plasma systems.

Selective pretreatment by type and combination of jets

The jet head is available in different versions having variable exit angles. Individual jets have a relatively small exit angle and so are more suitable for treating narrow areas. When wider surfaces have to be treated several plasma jets having a slit-shaped outlet or several rotating jets can be combined. The material being treated is activated to differing degrees depending on the speed of the jets and their spacing with respect to the material.

Central control and checks

The generators are used to provide the initial voltage and in association with full pretreatment stations assume responsibility for various control functions such as checking the stop switch, door locking, emergency cut-out module and checking the compressed air and material. The operator control panels for the system and stored program control (optional) are located on the generator.
