Chrome-free protection – Plasmatreat in the aluminum industry
There are alternatives to environmentally harmful, energy-intensive pretreatment processes in the aluminum processing industry. The use of atmospheric pressure plasma is a particularly energy-saving option. In a special edition, leading German trade journal for the aluminum industry ALUMINIUM-PRAXIS (6/2018) reports on the benefits and applications of Plasmatreat technologies.
Structural bonding: Plasma replaces solvent and keying processes
Schmitz Cargobull, Europe's leading semitrailer manufacturer, gave up using organic solvents prior to the structural bonding of sandwich panels several years ago. Instead, the company pretreats over 16,000 new refrigerated semitrailers a year with Openair®-Plasma. WERKSTOFFE (No. 5/2017) reports in detail on this large-scale application.
A leading European semitrailer manufacturer is saving at least 20 tons of chemicals a year in the pretreatment of sandwich panels for large refrigerated trailers. Instead of environmentally harmful solvents, the company uses atmospheric pressure plasma to clean and activate the surfaces. A case study in JOT (2014/3), Germany’s top journal for surface technology, presents all the details.
Plasmatreat has developed the world's first system allowing plasma pretreatment of large lightweight-panels for subsequent flat lamination or coating processes in a continuous, inline production line. IPCM (International Paint and Coating Magazine, 9/2011) covers the process.
How Openair®-Plasma eliminates masking and safeguards the glass fibre
composites during the production of the Audi Q5 instrument panel is
reported by BP&R (British Plastics & Rubber, May 2011).
Composite materials: Bonding lightweight panels in a better way
Recycled plastic materials and WPC tend to have difficult-to-bond surfaces. An Openair® process for pretreating large surface panels now allows for low-cost production. LIGHTWEIGHTDESIGN (3/11) gives the details.
The usual masking process before foam filling is particularly labor-intensive in instrument panel construction. The journal "Special K 2010" describes how the supplier to Audi, Peguform, completely does without masking.
Environmental protection is a key issue to transport companies. Over 15 000 new refrigerated semi-trailers are produced by Europe's largest trailer manufacturer Schmitz Cargobull each year. The eco-friendly truck production involves the use of Openair® plasma. The German plastics magazine PLASTVERARBEITER (10/2010) gives the details.
A new rotary plasma technique from Plasmatreat allows for the first time to pretreat large-area lightweight composite panels at high speed in a continuous process. Germany’s bonding journal ADHÄSION (8/2010) describes the new process.
