On 7 September, the East Westphalian industry network Kunststoffe in OWL e. V. presented the ‘Plastic Innovation Award 2017’ to Plasmatreat for the development of Plasma-SealTight®, a plasma sealing layer produced under atmospheric pressure which creates a strong, covalent bond between metal and plastic in injection-molded hybrid components.
Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL) is one of Germany's leading regions for plastics engineering and home to over 500 plastics technology companies employing around 17,000 people and three universities specializing in this field. The association Kunststoffe in OWL e.V. provides networking opportunities for companies and institutions in the plastics industry in the OWL region with the aim of increasing transparency and making better use of all resources and potential within the region.
Companies are not permitted to nominate themselves for this award, so it came as a surprise to Plasmatreat. A panel of university professors and engineers working in the industry were looking to award the prize to a recent innovation with potential which would provide important stimulus to the plastics industry.
During the awards ceremony, Prof Dr Christoph Jaroschek from Bielefeld University explained the panel's decision this year as follows: “Producing hybrids from metal and plastic is enormously important in the plastic industry. Plasmatreat’s new coating technology has a key role to play in this process.”
Plasmatreat Global Market Segment Manager Edgar Düvel and Innovations Manager Dr Alexander Knospe were delighted to be presented with the innovation award by association chairman Stefan Schmedding.
