K 2019: Plasma processes generate tremendous interest

At the K Fair 2019 Plasmatreat presented a completely new process for the rationalisation and flexibilisation of plastics production. The visitor frequency exceeded many expectations.

"We had really high visitor numbers", reports product manager Erhard Krampe. "And we were particularly pleased to see so many well-prepared trade visitors who specifically targeted our stand." Visitors from different sectors enquired about the new InMould-Plasma® technology for 2-component injection molding.  This process makes it possible to securely bond different types of plastic which were previously thought to be virtually incompatible.

Some plastics engineers among the visitors were surprised that even TPU and polypropylene could be successfully combined in this way. The InMould-Plasma® process brings a host of further advantages to the plastics processing industry: Thanks to this new technology, it is now possible to use the relatively lightweight and inexpensive polypropylene as the load-bearing element of 2-component parts. Expensive technical plastics have been used for this purpose up until now.

"Visitor numbers really exceeded all our expectations", enthused Plasmatreat CEO Christian Buske. “It just happens that the focus of many plasma applications in the automotive industry and thus for electromobility in particular resonates with the spirit of the age."

Another highlight among the exhibits was the new XPlanar drive technology from Beckhoff Automation GmbH & Co. KG. This world first was unveiled to the public on the Plasmatreat stand.  The drive system consists of free-floating planar movers which can be moved jerk-free and contact-free at up to 4 m/s over planar tiles arranged in any configuration for maximum flexibility and emission-free transport.
